Finding an Apartment in Spain
Teaching Abroad has many difficult steps but finding somewhere to live shouldn’t be apart of that!

What is your budget?
Teaching Abroad usually pays anywhere between 700-1000 euros a month. This is based on the cost of living in the location you are in. Cost of living in Spain is very low compared to the States so don’t be afraid! My pay is 800 euros/month and my rent is 500 euros. If you have the same pay, search for somewhere between 200-500 euros a month.

Are you willing to commute?
Many of us are placed in small towns with even smaller options. It is important to consider the possibility of needing to commute from a bigger city. Some people prefer this, I wanted to be close to my school so I continued looking until I found one.

Do you want roommates?
Roommates are an amazing way to make friends. However, when I was looking for apartments a lot of roommates I would have would be much older than me. Also, I love having my own space. This narrowed my search to mostly one bedrooms and studios.

How do you find these apartments?
Idealista
This is the most widely used website that allows you to filter your searches easily. I also love that you can chat with people through the website. You don’t have to give out any personal information.
Facebook is incredible. You can join multiple groups for people in the town or city you are in. Within these groups you can post about what you are looking for. So many people love to help! I also recommend looking through Facebook Marketplace!
Real-estate Agencies
This is my absolute favorite way to find available apartments. In small towns especially, there are agencies everywhere! All you need to do is go in and ask if they have anything that fits your criteria and even if they say no- leave your name and number!
I found my apartment through asking the management company that I got my temporary place from. They knew of someone who just renovated four apartments and sent me their information! There is also much more accountability for this, especially in small towns.
